Oxidize Global

Published on 4 min read

Today we're announcing Oxidize Global, a four day and remote-only conference covering development in Embedded Rust! We want Oxidize Global to be accessible from wherever you live in the world, so we're adjusting the format a bit to make sure everyone can take part! Oxidize Global will be on the original dates for Oxidize 2020, July 17th-20th.

Additionally, we've set the next potential dates for Oxidize 2020, our in-person version of OxidizeConf to October 23rd-26th. We'll be keeping an eye on how reasonable it is to hold an event with international travel as time goes on, so for now, save the date!

If you want to be notified of updates, make sure you sign up for the Oxidize newsletter! We'll have more information to share in the next weeks, but here's what we have in store.

    The Lineup

We'll be offering remote versions of all of the main OxidizeConf events! This includes the hands-on training workshops, the conference date, as well as the Impl Days! Here's a quick run-down of what each day will look like.

    July 17th: Workshops

We'll be offering Two Hands-On, Exercise Driven Workshops, each with Two Sessions, 12 hours apart. Each session is 3.5 hours long.

    • Beginner Workshop
      • Session one: 07:00 - 10:30 CEST
      • Session two: 19:00 - 22:30 CEST
    • Advanced Workshop
      • Session one: 07:00 - 10:30 CEST
      • Session two: 19:00 - 22:30 CEST

The Beginner Workshop covers everything necessary to get started writing applications in Rust on an embedded system. We'll get you up and running, and explain the basics of working with Embedded Rust. The 07:00 CEST and 19:00 CEST sessions will be identical, offered at different times. If you're just starting with Embedded Rust, this is the session for you!

The Advanced Workshop is for developers that have already tried out Embedded Rust, and want to learn more. We'll cover some of the more advanced topics of working productively with Rust on bare-metal systems. The 07:00 CEST and 19:00 CEST sessions will be identical, offered at different times.

We will also be offering a package deal for folks that would like to take the Beginner Workshop at 07:00, and the Advanced Workshop at 19:00.

We are still working on the logistics of providing hardware worldwide for the classes, and will be opening sales for the Workshops by mid-May. Workshop tickets will also include access to the Conference and Impl Days. You can sign up for our newsletter to be notified when these tickets go on sale!

As with last year's trainings, the written training material will be made available after the conference, however the workshops will not be recorded.

    July 18th: Conference Day

Conference Tickets are on-sale now! You can purchase now via these links:

    • Company Tickets - 150 EUR + VAT each
      • These tickets are for individuals who are attending Oxidize Global as part of their company, or who are being reimbursed by their employer.

We'll be opening the CFP for Oxidize Global on Monday, May 11th. The Oxidize Global CFP will close on Monday, June 1st.

We will be hosting 12 or more 20-25 minute talks on the day of the conference. In order to make sure everyone gets a chance to see the talks live, we'll be breaking the talks into four programming blocks:

    • Conference Block A
      • 05:00 - 08:00 CEST
    • Conference Block B
      • 09:00 - 12:00 CEST
    • Conference Block C
      • 13:00 - 16:00 CEST
    • Conference Block D
      • 17:00 - 20:00 CEST

Each block will contain a mix of:

    • Live Conference Talks
    • Replays of Earlier Talks
    • Live events, such as Q&As with presenters and members of the community
    • Special Guest presentations

At Oxidize 1K, one of our favorite parts was watching the community discuss talks as they were presented, and by offering a rotation of talks for each block, we hope to keep the discussions going all day!

All conference talks will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel over the rest of the year. If you want to see the talks as soon as they are available, make sure to purchase a conference ticket!

July 19th and 20th: Impl Days

We'll be coordinating a collaborative, community-driven, two day, online event for folks that are interested in working together or discussing Embedded Rust! We'll be offering:

    • Room to chat and discuss Embedded Rust projects
    • A showcase of the projects being developed during the Impl days
    • Lightning Talks, interviews, and Q&A sessions for Impl day participants

We're still finalizing our plans for the Impl days, so stay tuned!

    Thank you all!

We want to thank everyone who has helped make every iteration of Oxidize a huge success! We couldn't do it without you, and can't wait to see you all again at Oxidize Global on July 17th-20th!
