We’re proud to announce the release of Ferrocene 24.11.0, the latest update to our qualified Rust toolchain. This version includes new Rust improvements, medical qualification, a new host platform, and qualification of our existing QNX toolchains.
Ferrocene is the first fully open-source qualified Rust compiler toolchain for safety- and mission-critical systems. It is ISO 26262 (TCL 3/ASIL D), IEC 61508 (T3), and – with this latest release – IEC 62304 qualified to the highest levels of safety.
Developed as a downstream Rust distribution, Ferrocene is 100% compatible with the main Rust compiler, allowing you to work seamlessly with both the compiler distributed by the Rust project and the Ferrocene toolchain.
What's new in Ferrocene 24.11.0
Ferrocene 24.11.0 upgrades from Rust 1.79.0 to Rust 1.81.0. This brings the
latest innovations like exclusive ranges in patterns, #[expect(lint)]
, and
the ability to note the reason for annotating lints to the safety-critical
world.
In Ferrocene 24.11.0, we qualified support for the Armv8-A QNX 7.1.0 and x86-64 QNX 7.1.0 platforms, enabling QNX users to leverage the power of Rust to enhance the safety, security, and maintainability of their critical embedded systems.
Please contact us if you'd like to gain access to the target.
This newest version of Ferrocene is also qualified in accordance with the IEC 62304 standard for medical device software. We believe Rust to be a useful language for the medical industry to create innovative healthcare solutions that meet the highest industry standards and we are pleased to be able offer developers in this sector the same level of assurance we provide to automotive and industrial applications.
In addition, Ferrocene 24.11.0 includes experimental (not qualified) support for using Armv8-A Linux (glibc) as a development platform.
